About the Costume

Description

The .hack costume I had originally planned to complete for Anime Expo 2004 wasn't going to be finished on time. With help from Jody, we managed to get Sora done in a weekend. It took both of us about 21 hours (although I was also working on Lafiel's BlackRose armor for some of that time.) I ran into Dave Wittenberg (the English voice actor for Sora) at AX. (He also did the grunty voice, so my grunty friend was happy as well.) Killing BT over and over was always fun.

Construction Notes

The knives were done quickly due to time constraints. I kept hitting them on things because they were always sticking out. They broke a couple times and super glue fixed them well...until they got completely mangled on the flight home. It's a good thing I planned to re-make them anyway (and make it so that the blades are retractable.) The headband was done when I blinked. The boots aren't great and need to be improved. The first wig was a cheap thing originally used for my Ferio costume that I got at Newbury Comics, but cut and trimmed for Sora. After Katsucon 2005, this was replaced with a custom wig created by Katie Bair. I haven't worn this since 2006. If I ever drag it out again, I would want to re-do the boots and knives.
