Christophe Ferreira
Animator
France
Biography:
Mr. Ferreira is a talented animator, comic artist, and designer from France who is active in the Japanese animation industry.
As a child, Christophe Ferreira would watch TV cartoons and try to draw them. A little further down the line, he'd practice on comic book albums that he'd borrow from the public library, namely Spirou et Fantasio, Léonard est un génie and, of course, Astérix. In 1991, he saw the movie Akira in the theater, which is what really helped make up his mind: he would study illustration.
Unaware there were schools specializing in animation and comic books, Mr. Ferreira took up graphic design studies for advertising, but soon realized that it wasn't for him. He wanted to draw. Through his previous studies, he discovered the Gobelins school, and that changed everything. He passed the entrance exams for the animation department and continued a two-year training as an assistant animator at the CFT Gobelins in Paris, France.
After graduating in 1998, Mr. Ferreira worked in France on a variety of projects. Around the end of 2001, he attended a workshop led by Yasuo Otsuka, a great Japanese animator who had trained several generations of Japanese animators. This inspired him to move to Japan to study the Japanese techniques of animation.
Mr. Ferreira first worked at Telecom Animation studio under the tutelage of Yasuo Otsuka and Kazuide Tomonaga, two widely known and highly respected animators in the industry. After that, he branched out and had the opportunity to contribute to other projects like Bleach for Studio Pierrot, Genius Party and a Crayon Shinchan for Studio 4C, and Lupin III: The Woman Called Fujiko Mine for TMS studio, among others.
In 2012, Mr. Ferreira also started a career in the French comic book industry, something he continues even today. He is currently working on his comic titled Milo's World, available in the US through iTunes.
Mr. Ferreira joined Studio Signal M.D.'s Ancien and the Magic Tablet project in early 2015, and has lent his talents to the movie's graphic designs, storyboards and animation.
